IT’S MASS EFFECT 3 DAY!!
Outstanding Art :: Anatomical Cross-Sections Done in Paper
These pieces by Lisa Nilsson made from Japanese Mulberry paper are unfricken believable!
For her Tissue Series, artist Lisa Nilsson constructs anatomical cross sections of the human body using rolled pieces of Japanese mulberry paper, a technique known as quilling or paper filigree. Each piece takes several weeks to assemble and begins with an actual photograph of a lateral or mid-sagittal cross section to which she begins pinning small rolls of paper. Depending on its function she rolls the paper on almost anything small and cylindrical including pins, needles, dowels, and drill bits (she even attempted using some of her husband’s 8mm film editing equipment but to no avail). Lastly she even builds the wooden boxes containing the cross-sections by hand. A graduate of RISD, Nilsson now lives and works in Massachusetts and you can learn more about her process in this pair of interviews on All Things Paper and ArtSake. [source: Colossal]

Kitty Cat Adventures :: Tiny Illustrations
I love to doodle, and color, and be really dumb. So I started doing teeny tiny illustrations of cats having crazy adventures. I’m calling them “Kitty Cat Adventures” because well I am a creative genius! I am going to start with tiny illustrations and move to bigger paintings. I am excited!

Deviant Art Fail :: Profile Picture Let Downs
And we are back with another RIVETING edition of DEVIANT ART FAIL! For this edition we will be looking at a classic, the profile shot!
We all know what a profile picture is, and it is a hard one to do yourself. So we guess people who are professional artistic photographers that grace deviant art might know what the hell they are doing when they take self photographs of themselves. Well if you are familiar with Deviant Art Fail then you know the answer is no.

This one really isn’t all that bad. It fails because it is to washed out, and I think the layout could use some editing. A quick glance at this picture and it looks like she is talking on the phone, not what she was going for I believe.

OOOOOKKKKKKK!!!! First layout is crappy, it’s blurry and it seems like she isn’t even TRYING. This picture looks like she just got out of the shower and took a bunch of pictures on her phone and then uploaded them all to deviant art and gave them “interesting” titles. Deviant Art is NOT Facebook! At least edit the goddamn image, a little…. please!?

What is gong on with that hand? It is just floating there, is he a T-rex? Because that would be awesome. Once again this one isn’t that bad. He is a nice enough looking chap BUT this image needs some serious composition changes! CROPPING can be your friend! Without it, it doesn’t look like he was trying, and it’s sloppy and uninspiring.
Now you should all know I end these with really awesome examples.
I’m not trying to hate on people here, just the lack of effort in a lot of these really bugs me. I mean if you want to camera whore it up, and not give a damn about the quality, composition, or whatever the fuck, fine. Just put them on Facebook, your Flickr, Tumblr, whatever. I have always loved Deviant Art because it was a community for artists, and I am not saying that only a select people can be artists, I am just saying at least TRY! Ok end rant… here are some outstanding examples of self portrait profiles!

Fiverr.com Dinosaur Illustrations
I am doing 5 dollar dinosaur illustrations on Fiverr.com. I’ll draw you as a dinosaur!!! I’ll draw you or anyone you want as a dinosaur! I’ll draw a dinosaur as a dinosaur!!!
I’m doing this to help raise money for something I want, but can’t afford. I am also doing this as an excuse to draw one of the things I love to draw… dinosaurs!!!

Here are a few examples of my current dinos, I have a bunch more in the works too.
Now since I am only charging 5 dollars for these I won’t work longer then a half hour on each. But I can accomplish a lot in 30 minutes! Some people have asked if I can do a small painting, more then one dino in the picture or do a large picture(or take a longer time) the answer is yes! BUT it will be an additional 5 dollars. (message me for info on Fiverr.com to find out how that works). If you want more then one dinosaur then just purchase as many dinos as you want and I’ll lump them into the same shipment.
